What To Wear

Safety & Risks

What To Wear

  • Always wear socks.  Thin socks are fine.  Two pairs of socks are not necessary and may cause skates to fit poorly.
  • The rink is cool during the Summer and cold during the Winter months.
  • Dress in layers as you will warm up while skating.
  • Gloves and hats are recommended during cold months.
  • Helmets are recommended for new or very young skaters.
  • You may bring your own helmet, or rental helmets are available for $5.

Safety & Risks

Safety & Risks

Safety & Risks

  • Please review our Rules, Risks & Disclaimers if this is your first time visiting our rink.
  • The Pineville Ice House is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
  • Leave valuables in your vehicle, or ask our staff to hold and item for you while you skate.

More information

Skate Type

  • Figure Skates - Provide more stability because they have a longer and wider blade.  They have a toe pick, the jagged edge on the front of the blade, which is used for jumps and spins.
  • Hockey Skates - Allow for faster and easier turns and pivots due to the slight curve of the blade.  They do not have a toe pick.
  • Which Is Easier? - First time skaters sometimes find that the stability of figure skates is helpful.  As the advantage is only slight, however, skaters should consider other factors such as their skating goals and the skate comfort.  Those with larger feet may find that hockey skates are more comfortable.

Skate Fit

  • Size Selection - Skates should be snug.  Skate sizes are bigger than shoe sizes, so request skates that are a half to whole size smaller than your shoe size.  Never wear skates that are too big.  You will have difficulty skating and risk injury.  Return to the skate counter to trade for a smaller pair.
  • Laces - Loosen the skate laces before sliding the skate onto your foot.  Then lace skates tightly, from toes to the ankles, all the way to the top.  Do not leave any lace holes or hooks unused.  Do not allow laces to drag on the ice as they will create a tripping hazard.
  • Socks - Wear just one pair of socks of normal thickness.  Wearing two pairs of socks or extra thick socks may result in a poor fit, cause discomfort and lead to - rather than prevent - blisters.

Dining & Drinking

We do not permit outside food and beverages.  However, our rink side Restaurant, Bar and Snack Bar menu includes:

  • Chicken tenders, fries, wings, pizza, hamburgers, hot dogs, nachos and more.
  • Snacks and candy.
  • Fountain beverages and bottled sports drinks and water.
  • Hot chocolate, coffee and tea.
  • On tap:  local craft, import and domestic beers; hard cider; hard seltzer.
  • Bottled and canned beers.  Wine.

All Restaurant, Bar and Snack Bar purchases may be enjoyed in spectator areas.

Music & Song Requests

  • We play music from multiple decades and genres:  Pop, Hip-Hop/Rap, Country, Latin, Rock and others.
  • Music played during our Friday night Public Skating sessions is geared toward teens and adults.  Some songs may contain explicit content, as clean versions of popular songs are not always readily available.
  • Music played on Saturday, Sunday or weekday Open Skating sessions is intended to be diverse and family friendly.  If you hear a song with explicit content - we apologize.  Some songs may slip through our streaming filters.  Please notify our staff so that we can skip to the next song.
  • Song requests are taken at the skate rental counter.  Please provide the song title and artist.
  • At the start or end of sessions, or during very busy sessions, our staff may not be available to take requests or honor all requests.  Our staff may also deem some songs requested as inappropriate for that session.
