Ice rinks must have good ventilation, proper equipment and proper equipment maintenance to ensure that air quality is healthy and safe for its customers and employees. Our Olympia ice resurfacer includes a fuel management system and catalytic converter for improved indoor air quality. We maintain our Olympia on a routine basis to ensure that these components perform as designed by the manufacturer. Our Munters dehumidifier includes a fresh air intake and runs continuously to circulate air in the rink. Our fire alarm system includes monitors to detect noxious gases, and an alarm will sound if harmful levels are detected. We take carbon monoxide (CO) readings as part of our regular operating procedures and include the results in our maintenance records. We use an Inficon meter designed for industrial and commercial applications. Since the State of North Carolina does not regulate ice rink air quality, we use the State of Massachusetts Board of Health Standards as a guideline. Our readings are well below Massachusetts limits. This rink has been open since 1995 and has no record of claims or complaints from customers regarding health issues related to air quality.
